DUBUQUE - Corbin Woods, Mac Mattke and Dane Mehring had three hits apiece as Xavier topped Dubuque Senior, 13-2, in six innings in the second game of a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader Friday.
Dubuque Senior won the first game, 6-5.
The split dropped Xavier (21-8, 15-7) into a tie with Iowa City West, which swept Waterloo East Friday night, atop the Valley Division standings with four conference games remaining. The Saints have doubleheaders remaining at home against Cedar Falls and at Dubuque Wahlert. Iowa City West has a home-and-home series with Iowa City High and a doubleheader at Cedar Falls remaining. Cedar Falls and Prairie are two games back. Prairie has six games left, Cedar Falls four.
Tyler Hines hit a two-run homer for Xavier in the fifth inning of the nightcap.
Dubuque Senior (14-19, 10-12) took advantage of four Xavier errors to score four unearned runs in the opener.
Alex Ries hit a home run for Xavier in the first game.
