Cedar Valley girls nipped by Iowa Mennonite

KALONA - The Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team was edged by Iowa Mennonite, 52-49, in a makeup game in Kalona Monday night.

The score was tied with 70 seconds left, but Iowa Mennonite snapped the deadlock with free throws and earned the victory.

Ellen Rodriguez led Cedar Valley (4-16) with 21 points and six assists. Shelby Hembera scored 18 points. Lindsey Cach contributed 10 rebounds and six assists.

Kristin Davis hit four 3-pointers and led Iowa Mennonite with 14 points.

CEDAR VALLEY (49): Hembera 8 2-5 18, Silver 0 0-0 0, Hoffman 2 1-3 6, Cach 2 0-1 4, Rodriguez 7 7-10 21. Totals 19 10-19 49.

IOWA MENNONITE (52): Davis 5 0-1 14, Yutzy 5 0-0 10, Hochstetler 1 0-0 3, Schmieder 2 4-6 8, Brokaw 0 0-0 0, Yoder 1 0-0 2, Miller 4 0-0 8, Perez 2 3-4 7, Hostetler 0 0-0 0. Totals 20 7-11 52.
