Xavier boys stay at No. 1 in Class 2A

Xavier remained the top-ranked boys soccer team in Class 2A and four other Metro teams were ranked in the Class 3A top 15 in this week's rankings released Wednesday by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Kennedy, which plays its first game Thursday when it hosts Hempstead, remains the No. 3 team in Class 3A. Washington slipped one spot to No. 7, Linn-Mar moved up from 15 to 11 and Prairie busted into the rankings at No. 13.

West Des Moines Valley and Dowling vaulted past Kennedy to the top of the poll. Last week's Nos. 1 and 2, Iowa City West and City High, slipped to Nos. 8 and 5, respectively.

The top six remained the same in Class 2A, with Dubuque Wahlert still behind Xavier. The Saints received all nine first-place votes.

Xavier faces a stiff test Thursday when the Saints travel to Linn-Mar, where the Lions will be christening their new stadium.

Iowa City Regina is still No. 1 in 1A.
