Prairie girls earn shot at MVC title

The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls basketball team has never won a Mississippi Valley Conference title, but the Hawks will get a shot at one Friday night.

Prairie earned a shot at the title by dispensing Cedar Falls, 70-40, in an MVC game at Prairie Tuesday night.

Prairie and Waterloo West are tied for first place in the Valley Division with 9-3 records with one game left in the regular season. As luck would have it, they'll battle each other for the title Friday night in Waterloo.

Courteney McCrary led a balanced attack with 17 points Tuesday as the Hawks (14-6, 9-3) took care of Cedar Falls (5-15, 1-11). Madison Dellamuth scored 15 points, Cyerra Hutchins added 14 points and Alisa Weiland also had 14.

Dellamuth played a strong all-around game with seven assists and four steals. McCrary grabbed six rebounds on Senior Night.
