Prairie boys tamed by Waterloo West

Carderrius Smith had 23 points the last time Waterloo West played Prairie. The Hawks lost that game by four points.

Prairie held Smith to 13 points Friday night, but four other Wahawks combined for 38 points and West walked out of the Prairie gym with a 58-49 boys basketball victory.

Tom Eilers scored 20 points to lead Prairie (5-14, 4-10). Jace Hanna had 17.

Malik Green added 11 points and Lincoln Conrey 10 for Waterloo West (9-10, 6-8).

Prairie fell behind 16-8 after the first quarter, but five straight 3-pointers by the Hawks put them ahead 27-20 in the second period. They led 31-28 at halftime.

Prairie still held a two-point lead entering the final quarter, but was outscored 17-6 down the stretch.
