Kernels add Muren to replace injured Jones

The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announced Monday that right-handed pitcher Tyler Jones has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with a right flexor mass strain and that right-handed pitcher Alex Muren will join the Kernels from extended spring training in Fort Myers, Fla. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.

The Twins selected Muren in the 12th round of the 2012 First Year Player Draft out of Cal State Northridge and he spent last season with the GCL Twins where he posted a 3-2 record, 1.46 ERA and four saves in 15 relief appearances. In 24.2 innings pitched, he allowed 12 hits and five runs (four earned) with nine walks and 12 strikeouts.

Jones left Saturday’s game in South Bend after facing one batter in the seventh inning. The Twins selected Jones in the 11th round of the 2011 First Year Player draft and in 10 relief appearances, he has a 2-1 record and 3.21 ERA with four saves.

Muren will join the Kernels in South Bend and be active and available for Monday night’s 6:05 game with the Silver Hawks. The Kernels roster remains at 24 active players, one below the MWL maximum of 25. There are two players on the disabled list.
