South Bend tied the game over the next two innings.  Ryan Court’s RBI single in the first inning made the score 4-1.  Fidel Pena hit a two-run home run Court added an RBI double in the second that tied the game, 4-4.

Walker’s grand slam in the fifth inning put the Kernels up 8-4.  It was Walker’s seventh home run and second grand slam of the season.  Candido Pimentel, Polanco, and Hicks had singled to start the inning and load the bases.

The Kernels added four insurance runs in the ninth inning to propel ahead 12-4.  Polanco doubled home Byron Buxton.  Hicks added an RBI single that scored Pimentel. Polanco scored on a wild pitch.  Tyler Grimes capped off the scoring with an RBI double to that brought in Hicks.
