Jefferson held onto the No.8 spot in the Class 5A softball rankings released Wednesday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Xavier, meanwhile, slid four spots to No.8 in the Class 4A rankings.

Jefferson (9-1) hosts Xavier (3-3) Thursday night in a doubleheader at 5:30 p.m.

Jefferson and Xavier are the only Metro teams in the rankings.

Ottumwa replaced Pleasant Valley atop Class 5A. Mississippi Valley Conference member Dubuque Senior is ranked fourth.
