J-Hawks fall to ranked foes at Ottumwa

OTTUMWA - Jefferson squared off against ranked foes twice Friday and was beaten twice at the Ottumwa Classic softball tournament.

Jefferson, ranked No.9 in Class 5A, was beaten by Class 4A No.3 Solon, 4-2, then lost to Class 5A No.2 Ottumwa, 10-5.

Maddie Hansen belted a two-run home run for the J-Hawks (28-10) against Solon. Kaitlyn Davidson and Brooke Stauffer had two hits apiece. Alyssa Olson took the loss.

Davidson had three hits and an RBI against Ottumwa. Erin Kuba had two RBIs. It was the J-Hawks' second loss to the Bulldogs in a week. They fell 4-2 in 13 innings last Friday at Jefferson.

Jefferson closes out the regular season Monday with a doubleheader at home against Iowa City West at 5:30 p.m. The J-Hawks hold a one-game lead over Dubuque Senior in the Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division.
