J-Hawks lead early, fall late

PDF

IOWA CITY - Jefferson built an early lead, but No.2 Iowa City West came back to claim a 4-2 win Friday night in a Class 4A substate quarterfinal baseball game at West.

The Trojans (33-7) advance to Wednesday's substate final. They will host either Kennedy or Linn-Mar.

Run-scoring singles by Lucas Larson and Ky Kramer in the second and third innings, respectively, gave Jefferson a 2-0 lead.

The J-Hawks (12-28) held a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Trojans tied the game then on an RBI single by Greg Ludwig.

Colin Baker's two-run double in the bottom of the sixth broke the tie.

The J-Hawks went down in order in the top of the seventh to end the game.

Jefferson pitchers Spencer VanScoyoc, Ben Koering and Dylan Wright limited West to four hits. Koering took the loss.

Tyus Adkins scattered seven Jefferson hits in a complete game performance for West.
