Allie Trcka 7th at state bowling

PDF

DES MOINES -- The Trcka family left its mark on the state bowling tournament in Des Moines this week.

First Tara, then Allie.

Allie Trcka, a senior from Cedar Rapids Jefferson, placed seventh at the girls Class 2A state tournament Friday before a standing-room-only crowd at Plaza Lanes.

Her performance came a day after her cousin Tara Trcka, a sophomore at Xavier, won the Class 1A state crown at Plaza Lanes.

"I'm excited for her," Allie said. "She wins everything. She's going places in bowling."

Tara Trcka won the small-school title with a three-game series of 674 on Thursday. Allie Trcka (she prefers Allie, not Allison) placed seventh in the big-school tournament with a three-game series of 615.

"I'm excited, because it's my last year," Allie said, "but I wish I would have done better."

It's no coincidence the Trcka cousins are bowlers. Tara's father,Tom, owns May City Bowl in Cedar Rapids. Allie said she began bowling when she was 3 or 4 years old.

"I grew up at the bowling alley, so it was something I jumped into," she said. "I liked doing it.

"You just bowl for yourself and it's fun. You're on your own."

Trcka was tied for 10th place after all the girls bowled a two-game series Friday. The top-10 (plus ties) advanced to the playoffs, where Trcka rolled a 206 to climb three notches to seventh.

Stacy Schwarzenstein of Linn-Mar placed eighth in the Class 2A girls division with a three-game series of 607. Caitlin Dicus of Kennedy finished 12th at 563.

Katie Maher of Ottumwa won the Class 2A title with a three-game series of 699. Muscatine won its second straight team championship (and third in four years) at 3,122.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy placed fifth in the girls standings with 2714 pins. Jefferson finished sixth with 2710 and Linn-Mar was eighth with 2634.

Linn-Mar also took eighth in the boys standings with 2974 pins. The Lions posted the top score in the substate tournament last Saturday but had a tough day in Des Moines.

Davenport North captured the Class 2A boys title. Tyler Solum of Southeast Polk won the individual crown with an impressive three-game series of 265-278-250--793.
