Prairie matmen win 3 titles in Ames

AMES - Sam Uthoff, Josh Wenger and Trey Blaha won individual titles for Cedar Rapids Prairie Saturday at the Mendenhall Invitational wrestling tournament in Ames.

The Hawks placed second in the 20-team tournament with 184.5 points. Waverly-Shell Rock won the championship with 209 points.

Uthoff won the 120-pound title with two pins and a 12-6 decision in the finals. Wenger prevailed at 138 pounds with a pin, two technical falls and a 3-1 verdict in the finals. Blaha rolled to the 152-pound crown with three pins and a 12-3 major decision in the final round.

 

Skyler St. John placed third for Prairie at 160 pounds. Jesse Hynek (195) and Jonah Manson (220) finished fifth.

Logen Rodriguez placed second at 126 pounds for Kennedy High School. Nolan Hromidko finished third at 113 pounds and Garrett Kubovec was fourth at 152 pounds.

Kennedy finished in 12th place with 75.5 points.
