The multi-talented Sommer twins - Katie and Kristie - have committed to Wartburg College to play basketball and softball, Katie Sommer told the Metro Sports Report Friday afternoon.

"We just committed to Wartburg!," she reported in an e-mail.

Katie Sommer was a first team all-state selection in softball last summer and was a third team all-state pick in basketball this winter. She also was named first team all-Metro and first team all-Mississippi Valley Conference in basketball.

Kristie Sommer was named second team all-state in softball and was named second team all-Metro and second team all-MVC in basketball.

The twins transferred from Dubuque Senior to Linn-Mar for their senior year in high school and helped the Lions compile a 15-9 record this season in basketball. Katie Sommer, a 5-foot-4 guard, averaged 15.1 points and Kristie Sommer, a 5-7 guard, averaged 14.4 points.

Both girls eclipsed 1,000 points in their high school basketball careers at Dubuque Senior and Linn-Mar.

Katie Sommer hit .515 and stole 53 bases for the Dubuque Senior softball team as a junior. Kristie Sommer hit .380 wtih five homers and 42 RBIs.

They helped the Rams compile a 34-9 record and reach the Class 5A state tournament.
