WATERLOO — Linn-Mar beat New Hampton, 34-22, but was beaten by West Des Moines Valley and Mason City during Saturday’s second round of the Waterloo Duals wrestling tournament at the Young Arena.

The Lions were competing in Bracket 2, which grouped the second-place finishers from Friday’s pool results. They opened the day with a 35-24 loss to Valley before beating New Hampton. Mason City handed them a 44-9 drubbing in their final meet.

Mason City won the bracket with a 3-0 record. Valley was second (2-1), Linn-Mar third and New Hampton (0-3) fourth.

Linn-Mar freshman Alijah Jeffrey won all three of his bouts, two at 103 pounds and the third at 112. A.J. Garcia also won three bouts, the first at 215 and the last two at 285.

Iowa City West went undefeated in the championship bracket to win the tournament. The Trojans beat Denver-Tripoli (38-26) Bettendorf (42-20) and Waverly-Shell Rock (33-30).  Waverly-Shell Rock was second, Denver-Tripoli third and Bettendorf fourth.
