Short-handed Riders win at Fargo

FARGO, N.D. - The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders continued their winning ways Friday night, downing Fargo, 5-4, in a USHL shootout before 3,605 fans at Scheels Arena.

Dylan McLaughlin's goal in the fifth round of the shootout secured the win for Cedar Rapids (20-3, 40 points). The win was a USHL-record 12th straight on the road to start a season.

The Riders fought back from deficits of 2-0 and 3-1 to push the game to a shootout. Cal Burke tied the game at 17:53 of the third period on an assist from Aaron Thow.

Ross Colton, Jiri Fronk and Hugh McGing also had goals in regulation for the Riders. Fronk also netted one in the shootout.

The Riders played the second of five games without Andrew Oglevie, Charlie Curti, Adam Gaudette and Mitch Reinke, who are playing for a U.S. team at the World Junior A Challenge International Tournament in Canada.

Cedar Rapids was unable to use the high school substitutes they used in Wednesday night's home win over Green Bay, so Coach Mark Carlson was forced to go with a lineup that was down two players from normal.

Fargo fell to 10-9-2.

The Riders will be shorthanded again when they play Saturday night at Sioux City.
