Linn-Mar boys track team weakened for state meet

Nick Lucas and Aaron Hunter will not compete for Linn-Mar High School at the boys state track meet this week in Des Moines.

Lucas qualified for state in the 400 hurdles, but his mother told the Metro Sports Report he has left the team and does not plan to participate in the meet.

Hunter has been suspended from the track team for a violation of school rules, according to sources. He qualified for the state meet in the 4x100 relay and distance medley.

Linn-Mar track coach Ken Hopkins and Activities Director Scott Mahmens declined comment.

Linn-Mar finished fourth in the state meet last year and has been considered one of the top teams again this year. The Lions are allowed to use a replacement for Hunter on relay races, but they cannot replace Lucas in the hurdles.

Lucas has been battling a hamstring injury, but he ran the 400 hurdles at the district meet last week. He had been a key member of relays this season, but was not included on relays for the state meet.
