Linn-Mar tabs 8 for Hall of Fame

John M. Anderson, Jaye Hutcheson, Bob Hoyt, Josh Dodds, Maureen Corkery-Johnston, Matt McDonough, Richard Burns and Grant Gibbs will be inducted into the Linn-Mar Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, Jan. 30 prior to a varsity boys basketball game at Linn-Mar.

Anderson (1984) was the starting center for Linn-Mar when it won the 1983 state basketball title. He played at Ohio State and overseas in Italy, Israel, Hong Kong and Australia. He died in 1994 in Australia after being stricken with meningitis.

Hutcheson (2008) played softball, basketball and volleyball at Linn-Mar. She was an elite all-state selection in softball and pitched at the University of Northern Iowa. She is currently working in Phoenix.

Hoyt earned 10 varsity letters in baseball, track, basketball and cross country at Linn-Mar. He retired in 2008 after working as an administrator in the Marion School District for 21 years. He serves as a Public Address announcer at Linn-Mar events and in the community.

Dodds played soccer, football and basketball at Linn-Mar. He was the Mississippi Valley Conference Soccer Player of the Year as a senior and is Linn-Mar's career leader in goals and assists. He played soccer at Washington & Lee University and was an All-American.

Corkery-Johnston participated in track and cross country at Linn-Mar. She currently lives in Maple Grove, Minn., and has been the Child Life Director at the Shriner's Hospital for Children in the Twin Cities for the past 25 years.

McDonough (2008) was a three-time state champion in wrestling at Linn-Mar and finished with a career record of 151-15. He was a two-time NCAA champion at the University of Iowa, compiling a 122-9 record. He is a member of the USA National Freestyle Team and has won bronze medals at the World University Championships and the Brazil World Cup.

Burns played baseball, football, track and basketball at Linn-Mar and was voted the Male Athlete of the Year in 1969. He played football and baseball at Marshalltown Community College and served in the military. He has managed the family farm north of Marion for 26 years.

Gibbs helped Linn-Mar win the 2007 state basketball title and was named first team all-state. He played college basketball at Gonzaga and Creighton and made three trips to the NCAA tournament at Creighton. He is playing pro basketball in Holland.
