Cedar Rapids Kennedy, which won the Class 4A state baseball title last July, topped the first poll of the 2011 season that was released Monday by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.

The Cougars won the first state baseball title in school history last summer and finished with a 32-10 record. They open the new season Monday night in the Bob Vrbicek Metro tournament against Cedar Rapids Jefferson at the Kennedy field at 7.

Kennedy defeated Mason City, West Des Moines Dowling and Iowa City West in the state tournament last year, and those three teams rank 2-3-4 in the new 4A poll.

Glenwood topped Solon for the top spot in the Class 3A rankings, Davis County is No.1 in the 2A poll and Martensdale St. Mary's leads the 1A ratings. Solon was 2A state champ last summer, but has been moved up to 3A this season.
