Cedar Rapids Washington junior Jared Printy has decided to change schools and will begin classes at Linn-Mar High School next Monday, his fatherĀ told the Metro Sports Report Monday night.
Printy, 6-foot-5, was the leading scorer for the Washington basketball team this season at 12.2 points per game. He also averaged 4.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists and made 51 3-pointers.
"It was a family decision, something we thought was best for Jared moving forward. A difficult decision," said Boyd Printy, Jared's father.
Washington Coach Adam Sanchez and Linn-Mar Coach Chris Robertson could not be reached for comment Monday night.
Jared Printy's cousins are basketball coaches at Linn-Mar. Jordan Printy is an assistant coach with the Linn-Mar boys basketball team and Jaime Printy Brandt is the head coach of the Linn-Mar girls basketball team.
Printy was named first team all-Metro and first team all-Mississippi Valley Conference this season.
Printy is the second prominent Metro basketball player to switch schools this year and enroll at Linn-Mar. Amanda Ollinger switched from Jefferson to Linn-Mar at mid-season.
Washington finished 13-10 this season and reached the Class 4A substate finals.
Boyd Printy was an all-state basketball player at Washington, graduating in 1987. He served six years as an assistant coach at Washington, most recently during the 2013-14 campaign, and also has served as the director of the Junior Warrior basketball program.
