Run in 7th sends Warriors past Valley

Washington's Noah Dostal scampered home with the winning run after a throwing error by West Des Moines Valley third baseman Jake Pauley in the bottom of the seventh inning in the Warriors' 6-5 win over the Class 4A No. 10 Tigers on Saturday in a nonconference baseball game at Washington.

Dostal lined a one-out single, stole second and went to third when the catcher's throw went into center field. Dan White and A.J. Puk were intentionally walked, loading the bases and setting up a forceout at every base. Sam Kacena's grounder was thrown away by Pauley for the win.

White had two hits, including a double and home run, and drove in two runs for the Warriors. Dostal and Puk also had two hits.

Zach Zingula (1-0), who set down the side in order in the top of the seventh, was the winning pitcher in relief of Mike Troendle, who worked the first six innings.

Washington (2-1) plays at Oskaloosa on Monday.
