IOWA CITY - The Xavier boys soccer team was edged by Iowa City West, 2-1, in a battle of ranked teams in a Mississippi Valley Conference match in Iowa City Thursday.

Luke Koechner tied the score for the Saints, 1-1, but Iowa City West scored a minute later for its 2-1 edge. All the scoring came in the first half.

Connor Ramlo collected an assist on Koechner's goal.

Xavier is ranked No. 2 in Class 2A. Iowa City West is ranked No. 13 in Class 3A and is the defending state champion.
