Rosario shines as Kernels roll

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - Randy Rosario tossed seven scoreless innings at the Cedar Rapids Kernels rolled to a 7-1 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Wednesday night at Fox Cities Stadium.

Cedar Rapids is now 15-1 against the Timber Rattlers this season, including a perfect 10-0 record on the road.

Rosario (2-5) matched a season-high with eight strikeouts while allowing five hits and walking three. Rosario previously had lost his last five decisions but picked up his first win since July 11 at Kane County.

The Kernels (74-61) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on three straight hits. T.J. White led off with a line single up the middle. Max Murphy followed with a double down the right field line to put two in scoring position.

Chris Paul then ripped a two-run single into left field, scoring both White and Murphy. It was Paul's first at-bat since being activated off the disabled list earlier in the day. They were also Paul's first two runs batted in this season.

Cedar Rapids extended its lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning. Alex Real began the fifth with a triple into the right field corner and scored on the first of two errors by Wisconsin's catcher Greg McCall.

After Austin Diemer was hit by a pitch, Sean Miller lined a one-out single into center to put runners on the corners. Nick Gordon's RBI single scored Diemer to make it 4-0, also sending Miller to third base. The second throwing error by McCall brought in Miller, making the score 5-0. Gordon stole second, and McCall's throw ended up in center field, allowing Miller to come home.

Diemer pushed the Kernels lead to 7-0 in the seventh inning with a two-run blast to left.

Jared Wilson allowed one run on two hits over two innings in relief for the Kernels.

David Burkhalter (5-8) took the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits in seven innings.

The teams continue the series on Thursday at 6:35 p.m.
