DUBUQUE -Dubuque Wahlert scored 14 runs in each game and swept a Mississippi Valley Conference baseball doubleheader Wednesday.
Wahlert, ranked third in Class 3A, won the first game, 14-4, in five innings, then took the nightcap, 14-11.
Wahlert (26-5, 17-3) moved a game ahead of Kennedy in the MVC Mississippi Division standings with six games left in the conference season. The Golden Eagles play a doubleheader at Kennedy on Friday.
Wahlert scored 10 or more runs for the 19th time in 31 games. The Golden Eagles have outscored their opponents 317-134, an average score of 10-4.
Wahlert's JJ Reimer hit home runs in each game, and was a single shy of hitting for the cycle in the nightcap. He had a double, triple and home run.
Washington's Jordy Brown had six hits in the doubleheader, including 5-for-5 in the nightcap.
Washington starters AJ Puk and Brown did not fare well on the mound. Puk allowed 11 runs -- one earned -- in 2 1/3 innings in the opener. Brown gave up 10 runs -- nine earned -- in 3 2/3 innings in the nightcap.
Mike Troendle hit a home run in the opener for the Warriors (8-18, 3-15). Dan White was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three runs scored and Sam Kacena 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the nightcap.
