RoughRiders pepper Madison, 5-1

Local hockey fans who arrived a little late for Saturday night's game at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena missed much of the fun.

The RoughRiders poured in three goals during a two-minute flurry in the early stages of the first period and defeated Madison, 5-1, in a USHL game before 1,666 fans at The Stable.

Madison took a quick 1-0 lead at the 4:10 mark of the opening stanza on an unassisted goal by Ryan Lohin, but the RoughRiders grabbed control of the game just a few minutes later.

Matt Gosiewski scored at the 6:30 mark, Hugh McGing connected at the 7:17 mark and Ross Colton finished the barrage with another goal at the 8:36 mark to give Cedar Rapids a 3-1 lead.

Matt Filipe made it 4-1 in the second period and Luke Morgan finished the victory with a goal in the final period.

Ryan Larkin made 22 saves for the RoughRiders. McGing, Filipe and Larkin were named the Stars of the Game for the RoughRiders, who raised their record to 3-0. Madison fell to 0-2.
