Strong pitching powers Warriors

WATERLOO - AJ Puk tossed a two-hitter in the opener and Grant Dostal notched his fifth win in the nightcap to lead Washington to a doubleheader sweep of Waterloo East in Mississippi Valley Conference baseball Tuesday.

Puk (1-5) struck out 12 for his first win.

Zach Zingula had two hits and drove in three runs and Cole Rhatigan was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Dan White and Puk also had two hits.

Dostal (5-1) scattered seven hits, walked four and struck out three for the Warriors (12-20, 7-17) in the nightcap.

Rhatigan and Puke both were 3-for-4. Rhatigan scored twice and drove in a run. Noah Burdt and Dostal had two hits apiece.

Losing pitcher Nathan Sahr hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning for East's only runs of the day.

Washington has won three straight. The Warriors host Davenport West on Wednesday at 5 p.m. then close out the conference season Friday at home with a doubleheader against Dubuque Senior.

East (5-31, 2-22) lost its 14th straight game. The Trojans close out their regular season Friday with a doubleheader at Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
