CEDAR FALLS - The Linn-Mar boys cross country team placed third at the Class 4A district meet Thursday at Birdsall Park in Cedar Falls and qualified for the state meet in Fort Dodge.

Ryan Murphy led the Lions with a fourth-place finish in 15 minutes, 57 seconds. Michael Mather finished seventh, Dalton Gosch 10th, Johnny Clymer 13th and Colin Johnston 26th for the Lions.

Cedar Falls won the team championship with 26 points. West Des Moines Valley placed second with 56 points, edging Linn-Mar by four points.

The top three teams and top 15 individuals qualified for the state meet Oct. 31.

Isaak Smith of Cedar Falls won the 5K race in 15:50, edging Trevor Kirk of West Des Moines Valley (15:51) and Sam Schillinger of Cedar Falls (15:52).
