Kyle Briggs of Cedar Rapids Jefferson is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Briggs, a senior, has gotten off to a terrific start with the Jefferson wrestling team this season. He is ranked No. 2 in Class 3A at 152 pounds and raised his record to 20-0 Saturday with a spotless performance at the Pipestone Duals in Pipestone, Minn.

Briggs went 5-0 at Pipestone with three pins, a technical fall and a forfeit.

Briggs has excelled in major tournaments this season. He's won titles at the Southeast Polk Invitational, the West Des Moines Valley Tournament and the Keith Young Invitational.

Briggs compiled a 35-9 record last season as a junior and placed eighth at 132 pounds in the state tournament.

Jefferson is ranked No. 6 in Class 3A by The Predicament.
