Washington girls trimmed by Wahawks

WATERLOO - The Washington girls basketball team fell behind by eight points after the first quarter Tuesday night and lost to Waterloo West, 49-46, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game in Waterloo.

Anne Visser collected 11 points and seven rebounds for the Warriors (7-6, 4-4). Joniqua Clark had eight steals and six assists. Payton Bruner contributed seven points and six rebounds.

Tahya Campbell had a big night for Waterloo West (5-7, 1-5) with 20 points as the Wahawks won their first conference game of the season. Na'Tracia Ceasar added 14 points for the victors.

Waterloo West made only eight field goals in the game, but the Wahawks hit 30 of 34 free throws to win the contest at the charity stripe. Campbell was 15 for 18 at the foul line and Ceaser was 9 for 9.

Washington made 20 field goals, but was only 3 for 7 at the foul line.
