RoughRiders roll before big crowd

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders dominated the Waterloo Blackhawks, 4-1, in a USHL game before 3,406 fans Friday at the Ice Arena.

Cal Burke and Karch Bachman had first-period goals for the RoughRiders, with assists by Ross Colton, Zac Robbins and Riese Zmolek.

Colton added his own goal in the second period with assists from Hugh McGing and Justin Cole. Johnny DeRoche put Cedar Rapids up 4-0 with a goal in the third period off assists from Cole and Pavel Tkachov.

Ben Blacker made 29 saves for the RoughRiders. Waterloo scored its lone goal in the fourth period on a power play.

The RoughRiders hold first place in the Eastern Conference of the USHL with 59 points, good for a six-point lead over Dubuque and Green Bay.

Cedar Rapids travels to Omaha for a 7:05 p.m. match Saturday.
