OTTUMWA - The Kirkwood softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Indian Hills Friday.
The Eagles won the first game, 2-1, behind a strong pitching performance by DoniRae Mayhew. Indian Hills took the nightcap, 10-2, in five innings.
Mayhew did not allow any earned runs in the 2-1 victory. She struck out six batters and walked three.
Monika Bevans hit a solo home run for Kirkwood in the opener. Lauren Kuch went 3-for-4 and Skylar Ryan collected an RBI.
Mayhew belted a two-run homer for the Eagles in the second game for all their scoring.
Kirkwood, which is ranked No. 3 in NJCAA Division II, left Ottumwa with a 23-3 record. Indian Hills, which is receiving votes in the Division I poll, is 25-6.
Kirkwood was scheduled to host Northeast Community College on Saturday, but the doubleheader has been postponed.
