Howell ready to sign with Brewers

Korry Howell was selected in the Major League draft on Wednesday for  the second straight year.

This time, the shortstop from Kirkwood Community College is ready to  sign a pro contract.

Howell was picked in the 12th round of the MLB draft by the Milwaukee  Brewers with the 365th pick overall.

Howell told Hawk Central and the Des Moines Register that he'll "most  likely" sign with the Brewers. If so, he'll head to the minor leagues  and not accept his scholarship with the Iowa Hawkeyes.

"It was an extreme relief," Howell said about being drafted. "I've  been working my whole life for this, and to finally see everything pay  off in literally 30 seconds, I just got a nice little view of what's  going to happen."

Howell was selected by Kansas City in the 19th round of the 2017  draft, but the Chicago native elected to return to Kirkwood for his  sophomore year with the Eagles.

Howell hit .401 with 40 stolen bases and 45 RBIs this year, helping  the Eagles reach the NJCAA Division II World Series for the first time  in 19 years.
