Registration begins for 2020 IWSL campaign

Things keep getting better and better for the Iowa Women’s Softball League. Now it's time to move forward again.

The IWSL concluded its third season this past Sunday and the players, coaches, administrators and fans all agreed it was the best year yet. With that in mind, it’s time to begin thinking about next year.

Registration for the 2020 campaign officially began on Thursday, Aug.  1 for everyone who played this season. Click on the registration link that appears with this story and have a credit card handy to enroll.

Yes, it’s early. And yes, it’s almost impossible for college softball players to plan that far ahead. That’s all true.

But here’s the flip side: All of the players who register in August have nothing to lose and a lot to gain.

All the returning players who enroll in August will get a 50 percent discount off the normal registration fee and pay only $50 instead of $100. They can save themselves a spot in the league for next summer and not have  to worry about getting locked out.

And here’s the kicker: If they register now and ultimately decide not  to play, they’ll get all their money back. They could decide to take  the summer off, go the beach, travel, work on Sundays. It doesn’t matter.

There will be no questions asked and the check will be in the mail.

The early registration period ends Aug. 31 and the open registration  period begins Sept. 1. The enrollment fee will be $75 from Sept. 1  through Dec. 31, then will increase to $100 until all the spots are filled.

The Iowa Women’s Softball League featured four competitive teams with 15-player rosters in 2019. Another 20 players saw action as substitutes during the summer, which means 80 different players participated in the league this past summer.

Those 80 players represented 35 different colleges and 12 different states. It was quite a cross-section of NCAA, NAIA and Junior College  players all competing and having fun.

We anticipate having four teams again in 2020, so the 60 roster spots could go quickly. That’s why it’s best to enroll now and save your spot.

The Iowa Women’s Softball League is the only college summer league in Iowa and one of the few in the country. It’s proven to be very popular and the future looks better and better all the time.
