Marv Cook talks to J-Hawks about football job

Iowa City Regina football coach Marv Cook toured Cedar Rapids Jefferson last week and said Tuesday he's "flattered" to be considered for the job as Jefferson's new coach, according to iowaprepsports.com.

"I'm not going to lie. I did visit Jeff," Cook told the SourceMedia Group website. "I'm flattered to be mentioned for this kind of job. Jefferson has a great tradition."

Jim Womochil resigned as Jefferson's head coach last month after 11 years and a 22-78 record. The J-Hawks will carry a 22-game losing streak into the 2012 campaign.

Cook has led Regina to two Class 2A state titles and a 59-5 record in five years.

Cook was a decorated player during his college and pro career as a tight end. He was an All-American at Iowa and all-pro with New England in the NFL.

Cook told iowaprepsports.com that he has not been offered the job at Jefferson.

Womochil has joined the football staff at Iowa State as a volunteer assistant.
