Lions keep hold on No. 1 spot

Linn-Mar kept its hold on the top spot in the Associated Press Class 4A boys basketball poll released Monday (Jan. 10).

Linn-Mar (9-0) won three games last week by an average 35.7 points per game.

Jefferson (7-1), which escaped Iowa City West in overtime Friday night, moved up to No. 2 when Sioux City East was upset by Hull Western Christian, 54-50, Saturday night in Sioux City.

Kennedy (8-1) dropped two spots to No. 6 after being upset by Class 3A No. 10 Dubuque Wahlert Tuesday at Dubuque. The Cougars rebounded with a pair of wins at Sioux City over the weekend.

Washington (6-3) is the fourth Metro team in the rankings. The Warriors are tied with Davenport Central for No. 10.

The new rankings set up a pair of interesting games Friday night when Linn-Mar plays at Washington and Jefferson at Kennedy. Both games are scheduled to tip at 7:30.

1. Linn-Mar (9-0), 2. Jefferson (7-1), 3. Sioux City East (6-1), 4. Ankeny (8-1), 5. Des Moines Hoover (8-1), 6. Kennedy (8-1), 7. Waukee (8-2), 8. Cedar Falls (6-2), 9. Urbandale (8-2), 10. (tie) Davenport Central (6-1) and Washington (6-3).
