Aune, Pritts win distance races for Prairie

PELLA - Nobody could beat Cedar Rapids Prairie in the distance races Friday at an indoor track meet at Central College.

Jacob Aune captured the 3200 meter run for the Hawks in 9:56.55 and Mitch Pritts won the 1600 in 4:41.43.

Aune won the 3200 by more than four seconds over Daniel Gardarsson of Iowa City West and Pritts claimed took the 1600 by more than four seconds over Connor Simmons of Waukee.

Prairie also looked good in the 200 meter dash with three runners in the top-7 in the finals. Demetrius Harper placed second in 23.60, Austin Dellamuth finished fourth in 23.85 and the versatile Aune placed seventh in 24.20. Cameron Williams of Des Moines Roosevelt won the race in 23.55, nipping Harper by five-hundredths of a second.

The Hawks claimed second in the 4x200 relay in 1:36.72, just a shade behind the Iowa City High quartet that won the race in 1:36.50.

Pritts captured eighth place in the 800 meter run in 2:10.59.
