IOWA CITY - Robert Hogg of Cedar Rapids Washington picked up three gold medals and a prestigious award Friday night at a Mississippi Valley Conference meet in Iowa City.

Hogg was named the Mississippi Division Athlete of the Year after winning the 800 meter run and helping the Warriors capture the 4x800 and 4x400 relays.

Iowa City High nipped Linn-Mar for the team championship, 118-117, and Washington made it an exciting three-team race by finishing third with 108 points.

Linn-Mar stars Josh Evans and Brandon Ophoff had challenging nights with mixed results. Evans won the 3200 meter run, but he was nipped in the 1600 by Dylan Eigenberger of Dubuque Senior. Eigenberger was clocked in 4:21.00 and Evans finished in 4:21.97 in a fast race.

Ophoff claimed the 400 low hurdles, but he was denied in the 110 high hurdles by Dan Roemerman of Iowa City High. Roemerman won the high hurdles in 14.31 seconds and Ophoff was second in 14.57. Last week at the Drake Relays, Ophoff finished second in the high hurdles and Roemerman was third.

Linn-Mar captured the 4x200 relay and sprint medley relay with Austin Fleider and Tristan Freese running in both events.

Nick Corbett claimed the 400 meter dash for Washington in 49.59 seconds, the second-fastest clocking in Class 4A this year, according to the IHSAA website. Corbett also anchored Washington's triumphant 4x400 relay. Trevor Luebe ran the third leg on both of Washington's winning relay teams.

Derek Jacobus of Kennedy won the long jump at 21 feet, 6 1/2 inches.
