Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s Luke Kremer has what it takes to win. In the match of the night at 135, Kremer outlasted No. 2-ranked Gradey Gambrall of Iowa City West in three overtimes, scoring an escape and takedown to win the match on Dec. 16. Kremer is ranked sixth.

The match was touch and go, with Kremer scoring the first takedown.  Gambrall escaped, then took Kremer down on the edge of the mat. Kremer escaped. The score stayed tied throughout the rest of the match.

In overtime, neither opponent scored. When Gambrall won the toss in the second overtime, Kremer rode him out the full 30 seconds. Gambrall returned the favor in the next 30 seconds.

 With sudden death in the third overtime, Kremer escaped, then took Gambralldown with seconds left.

 “It felt good,” Kremer said. “I came in ready.”

Kremer’s leadership exhibits the team philosophy to Keep Wrestling.

The victory helped ease the lopsided loss to Iowa City West, 58-15.

 Other Cougar wins were at 103 and 171. Nathan Waterhouse recorded his second pin of the night at 103. Ryan Sheldon had the only other win for the Cougars, pinning Mike Watkins in 3:57 at 171.
