WATERLOO -- An early season showdown of two of the top girls bowling teams in the state went to Waterloo West Tuesday at Maple Lanes.

Despite games of 213 and 257 and a 470 series by Jefferson's Nicole Petersen, the J-Hawks were clipped by West, 2847-2765.

Jefferson finished second and West fourth in last year's Class 2A state meet.
