Xavier Saints trim Marion, 4-2

Nick Drahozal hit a two-run single in the top of the first inning Thursday to steer Xavier past Marion, 4-2, in a prep baseball game at Marion.

Max Hammerberg pitched a complete game for Xavier and got the win.

Marion pounds Union in twinbill

The Marion Indians put on their hitting shoes Friday night and clobbered Union, 15-0 and 13-3, in a baseball doubleheader at Marion.

The first game lasted only four innings and the second game went five innings.

Quinn Cannoy pitched a four-hit shutout in the first game and hit a three-run home run. Logan Fuller, Christian Stekl, Caleb Stekl, John Carstensen and Trevor Hardman had two hits.

Carstensen collected three hits in the second game. Christian Stekl and Cannoy had two hits. David Kuhn pitched all five innings for the Indians, scattering five hits.

Marion splits twinbill with Solon

The Marion Indians exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the first inning Thursday and defeated Solon, 13-7, in the second game of a Wamac Conference baseball doubleheader at Marion.

Solon won the first game, 7-4.

Logan Fuller had three hits for Marion in the second game. John Carstenson and Trevor Hardman had two hits. Christian Stekl hit a triple.

Zack Miller, Owen Carstenson and Caleb Stekl combined for 10 strikeouts in Game 2. Miller earned his first varsity victory.

David Kuhn and Quinn Cannoy had two hits for the Indians in the first game. Freshman Mitch Wiese hit a home run in his first varsity at-bat for Marion.

Kuhn tosses no-hitter as Indians sweep

VINTON - David Kuhn pitched a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts Monday as the Marion Indians defeated Vinton-Shellsburg, 11-0 in six innings, in the second game of a Wamac Conference doubleheader in Vinton.

Quinn Cannoy tossed a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts as Marion won the first game, 12-1, in five innings.

Logan Fuller, Gage Kray, Cannoy, Maverick Miller and Trevor Hardman had two hits apiece to support Kuhn's no-hitter. Bobby Vanderlind and Hardman had triples. Kuhn walked only two batters.

Cannoy helped his own cause in the first game with a double, home run and four RBIs. Kray and Christian Stekl had three hits. Kray had two doubles and Stekl collected a double and home run. Logan Fuller had two hits.

Stekl headed to Northwestern College

Marion High School shortstop Christian Stekl has decided to continue his baseball career at Northwestern College in Orange City.

Stekl plans to sign his letter-of-intent on Monday at 3 p.m. at Marion High School.

Stekl hit .347 with 17 RBIs and 13 stolen bases for the Indians last season as a junior.
