Smith’s 352 series leads Marion girls

Bre Smith rolled a 352 series as the Marion girls bowling team topped Cascade 2,219 to 1,263 Friday at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Natalie Loes had a 164 series for Cascade.

Marion (2,219): Bre Smith 169-183=352, Ashley Ohl 164-171=335, Aleann Romo 169-122=291, Alexis Smith 160-118=278, Alyssa Rose 122-127=249.

Cascade (1,263): Natalie Loes 78-86=164, Heather Gassman 68-58=126, Natalie Merritt 73-119=192, Kayla Kavder 129-121=250.

Marion – 1,505-714=2,219.
Cascade – 732-531=1,263.

Marion bowlers sweep Independence

Zach Prucha and Bre Smith had good days Thursday as the Marion Indians swept their Wamac Conference bowling meets from Independence at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Prucha rolled the high series with a 417 as Marion won the boys meet, 2849-2285. He also had the high game with a 225.

Smith bowled the high series with a 398 as Marion captured the girls meet, 2212-1979. She also had the high game with a 216.

Bre Smith nets 357 for Marion girls

Bre Smith bowled a 357 series with games of 154 and 203 Tuesday for Marion in a Wamac Conference meet against Western Dubuque at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Kayla Horsfield of Western Dubuque took top honors with a 396 series, leading the Bobcats to a 2594-1986 victory.

MARION: Alexis Smith 112-107=219, Alyssa Rose 69-106=175, Aleann Romo 112-115=227, Ashley Ohl 139-138=277, Bre Smith 154-203=357.

WESTERN DUBUQUE: Myra Steffen 145-163=308, Emily Benn 168-174=342, Amber Huberty 150-126=276, Brooke Kluesner 136-144=280, Miriah Kluesner 173-186=359, Kayla Horsfield   203-193=396.

Marion: 1255 + 731 = 1986.

DeWitt Central girls stop Marion

The Marion girls bowling team lost to DeWitt Central 2,327 to 2,156 Tuesday at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Bre Smith led the Indians with a 385 series. Shelby Carrier led DeWitt Central with a 393 series.

DeWitt Central (2,327): Shelby Carrier 204-189=393, Bailey Walker 172-181=333, Abbi Coble 187-123=310, Katie Hall 123-134=257, Veronica Weigandt 121-113=234, Amber Meyer 104-127=231.

Smith 4th at state bowling

DES MOINES - Caleb Miller came up 15 pins shy in his bid to repeat as Class 1A state bowling champion Monday at Plaza Lanes.

Miller, a junior from Xavier, shot a 490 set with games of 279 and 211 and finished second in the individual portion of the boys tournament.

Marion's Bre Smith rolled a 433 set and tied for fourth in girls individual competition. She was 45 pins behind champion Shelby Carrier of DeWitt Central.
