Marion - Girls Bowling

Marion bowlers taking it on the Lamm

Mike Brice is a test engineer at Rockwell Collins, and he knows a lot about display screens that go in high-tech airplanes and helicopters. It's his job.

He also knows a good bowler when he sees one. Take Taylor Lamm, for instance. Lamm is a sophomore at Marion High School and Brice is her coach on the girls bowling team.

"She will be our best bowler, by far," Brice said. "She's a pretty natural bowler. She's bowled most of her life."

Brice figures Lamm, Joiah banfield and Emily Clapp will lead the Indians this season. Juliah Banfield and Stephanie Loesel graduated after last season.

Brice has worked at Rockwell Collins for 25 years. He coaches the girls and boys bowling teams at Marion, which keeps him busy, and he uses accumulated vacation time to join the Indians at the bowling alley for practice and games.

Brice is an active bowler himself, competing in two leagues, and likes what he sees at Marion this year. "I think we have some young talent," he reported.

There are only 10 girls on the team, which will require some juggling for varsity and junior varsity meets. "I could use a few more," he said.
