Marion netters slammed by Camanche

The Marion High School boys tennis team opened the 2012 season with a 9-0 loss to Camanche at the Marion High School courts.

Brayton Rasche of Camanche topped Michael Anderson, 10-5, at No.1 singles.

Marion runs into Wahlert buzzsaw at districts

DUBUQUE -- Marion ran into a Dubuque Wahlert buzzsaw Thursday in the Class 1A boys tennis district tournament held at Wahlert High School.

Michael Anderson won his first-round singles match before falling to Wahlert's Jon Moore in the second round, 6-1, 6-0. The top seeded Moore went on to win the district title.

Marion's other singles player, Brandon Hornback, was seeded third. He was beaten in the first round by unseeded Joey Ottavi of Wahlert, 7-5, 7-6(7-4), in a two-hour battle. Ottavi finished second to Moore.

Neither Marion doubles team won a match.

Wahlert rolled to the team title with 32 points. Davenport Assumption was second and Decorah third. All three advance to the substate team tournament next week.
