Abby Kolarik wins 400 at Cascade

CASCADE -- Abby Kolarik captured the 400-meter dash for the Marion Indians at the Cascade Early Bird Invitational on Thursday.

Marion also won the distance medley with Janie Draeger, Morgan Kolarik, Sam Livingston and Ellen Cannon on the quartet.

Marion - Girls Track

Marion takes 2nd in Wamac relays

MOUNT VERNON - The Marion Indians finished second in two relay races at the Wamac Conference girls indoor track meet Tuesday at Cornell College.

The Indians placed second in the 4x200 relay behind Clear Creek Amana and finished second in the distance medley behind Solon.

Abby Kolarik placed fourth in the 400 (1:05.38) and took fifth in the 200 (27.68). Morgan Kolarik placed fifth in the 55 hurdles (9.10) and took seventh in the long jump (14-8 3/4).

Mahlia Brown finished seventh in the shot put for Marion (32-8).

Allison Scott will run at Mount Mercy

Allison Scott has participated in volleyball, basketball, softball and track at Marion High School, but she's picked a sport for college.

It's track.

She's also picked a college and will attend Mount Mercy University. She plans to sign her letter-of-intent with the Mustangs on Tuesday.

Scott placed fourth in the 800 meter run at the Class 3A state meet last year as a junior and has qualified in the 800 again this year. She's also been a part of three relay teams that have placed at the state meet during her career.

Marion girls capture distance medley

VINTON - The Marion Indians won the distance medley at the Class 3A girls state qualifying track meet at Vinton-Shellsburg on Thursday.

Ellen Cannon, Abby Kolarik, Morgan Kolarik and Allison Scott won the race in 4:19.45 to automatically qualify for the state meet in Des Moines next week.

The Indians qualified for state in three other events with second-place showings by Scott (800), Sam Livingston (400) and the 4x800 relay.

Clear Creek Amana won the team title with 150 points. Marion finished fifth in the eight-team field with 81 points.

Marion girls 10th at Wamac track meet

VINTON - Morgan Kolarik placed second in the 100 meter hurdles Thursday to pace the Marion Indians at the Wamac Conference track meet in Vinton.

Sam Livingston finished third in the 400 meter dash for Marion.

The Indians placed 10th out of 16 teams in the conference meet. Solon ran away with the team title with 143 points.
