Saints sweep Prairie Hawks

The Prairie Hawks put on a hitting display Friday night at Ken Charipar Field against Xavier.

Prairie had 27 hits in 14 innings, getting at least one hit in every inning except the last inning of the nightcap, but stranded 19 baserunners. They

dropped both ends of the Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader, 6-4 and 6-5.

“We had 27 hits and played well enough to win two,” said Hawk Coach Matt Thede.  “We had two innings that we had too many errors and we left too many guys on base, but from my point of view, we should have gotten two.”

Prairie pounds River Kings

The crowd was buzzing Wednesday when Prairie took the home field for the first time this season.

The Hawks did not disappoint. They crushed Clinton 11-1 in five innings in a nonconference battle.

The Hawks pounded out 30 hits and 26 runs in two games Tuesday night at Jefferson and they did not slow down against Clinton. Prairie pounded 10 hits in scoring 11 runs to support a trio of pitchers. Starter Bryce Alberts got the win. He was followed to the hill by Drew Pond and Chaz Boots.

Prairie jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the second inning. Anthony Gagliardi's bases-clearing double highlighted the frame. Gagliardi was the batting star, going 4-for-4 with three doubles and a single.

Hawks hammer J-Hawks twice

The Jefferson J-Hawks hit three home runs Tuesday night in the friendly confines of their own baseball park.

Prairie belted six.

The Hawks raked Jefferson pitching for 15 hits in each game and swept past the J-Hawks, 15-4 and 11-2, in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader.

Jefferson's Tanner Unkel and Bailey Hollingsworth belted home runs in the bottom of the first inning of the opener to stake the J-Hawks to a 3-0 lead.

Dustin Carlson gave up both homers in the first inning, but survived to get the complete game win, walking one and striking out eight.

“You just gotta go out there and try harder the next inning,” explained Carlson. “It’s really nice when your teammates go out and get you 15 runs.”
