Short-handed Hawks handle Senior, 2-0

DUBUQUE - Logan Rinderknecht scored a pair of second-half goals that carried No.6 Prairie past Dubuque Senior, 2-0, Tuesday in boys soccer.

Mitch Renwick assisted on the first goal and Seth Rinderknecht on the second.

Adam Kueny recorded the shutout at keeper.

Prairie (10-4) played the last 55 minutes down a man because of a red card. The Hawks scored both their goals short-handed.

Metro teams dominate boys soccer poll

Kennedy heads up a four-team contingent from the Metro ranked in the top seven of this week's Class 3A boys soccer poll released Wednesday by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Kennedy is ranked No.1 and received all 10 first-place votes cast in the poll. Washington is ranked fifth, Prairie sixth and Linn-Mar seventh.

Xavier is ranked No.1 in Class 2A. The Saints received all but one first-place vote.

No.1 Kennedy tips Prairie in rugged MVC

Mississippi Valley Conference boys soccer this season seems to come down to the survival of the fittest in each and every game.

With the MVC boasting six of the top seven rated teams in this week’s Class 3A poll, there are few easy matches.

Pity the sixth-ranked Prairie Hawks, for instance.

They started the year with eight straight wins and climbed to the No.1 ranking. They’ve since lost four out of five, but their last six games have been to ranked foes.

The Hawks dropped yet another nail-biter Monday night at home, this time a hard-fought 1-0 loss to top-rated Kennedy (10-0, 7-0).

Prairie - Boys Soccer

No.4 Prairie boys trim Wahlert

Nerm Ibrahimovic converted a penalty kick with two minutes left in overtime Thursday night as No.4 Prairie clipped Dubuque Wahlert, 3-2, in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys soccer match at Prairie.

Ibrahimovic also scored Prairie's first goal in the game. Logan Rinderknecht collected a goal and an assist for the Hawks. Seth Rinderknecht also had an assist.

Gingrich shoots Lions past No.4 Prairie

In a game they controlled the whole way, it took the Linn-Mar boys almost 60 minutes to finally put away Prairie, 2-1, Tuesday night on the frozen tundra of their home field.

The game winner came with 20:41 to go when junior midfielder Jason Gingrich smacked a line drive from the 10-yard line high into the far left side of the net.

“Jason (Webb) dropped the ball off. I took one touch and the ball dipped into the corner,” Gingrich explained after scoring his fourth goal of the season.
