Marion girls join soccer rankings

The Marion High School girls soccer team popped into the state rankings in the No. 15 spot in Class 2A Friday, according to the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The Indians (7-4) were not ranked last week.

The Xavier Saints dropped one spot in the Class 2A rankings to No. 3. Waverly-Shell Rock and North Scott are ranked 1-2 in Class 2A.

Linn-Mar held onto the No. 2 spot in Class 3A and Prairie remained No. 10 in Class 3A. Bettendorf topped the 3A rankings again.

1. Bettendorf (14-1), 2. Linn-Mar (13-0), 3. Iowa City West (11-1), 4. West Des Moines Valley (9-3), 5. Dowling Catholic (9-4), 6. Dubuque Hempstead (12-2), 7. Johnston (12-3), 8. Waukee (11-2), 9. Muscatine (10-3), 10. Prairie (11-3).

Prairie girls boot Saints in Shootout

Cedar Rapids Prairie trimmed Xavier, 2-1, in a PK Shootout Thursday afternoon in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls soccer match at Xavier's Heco Field.

Alexa Martin scored for Prairie during regulation and Brylee Bastian countered for Xavier. Neither team scored in overtime and the Prairie Hawks won the Shootout, 3-2.

Maleah Baloch collected an assist on Martin's goal for Prairie.

Prairie is ranked No. 10 in Class 3A and Xavier is ranked No. 2 in Class 2A

No.10 Prairie girls trim Tigers

CEDAR FALLS - Cayla Renwick scored two goals Tuesday night as 10th-ranked Prairie trimmed Cedar Falls, 4-3, in a Mississippi Valley Conference soccer match in Cedar Falls.

Alexa Martin and Sophie Ortiz also scored for the Hawks. Martin, Ortiz, Paige Anderson and Hayley Moyle collected assists for Prairie.

Mariam Bartlett tallied twice for Cedar Falls. Kayla Dowell also scored for the Tigers.

No.10 Prairie girls kicked by Hempstead

The 10th-ranked Prairie girls soccer team could not get untracked Friday night and lost to No.7 Dubuque Hempstead, 4-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference match at Prairie.

Mariah Morris, Courtney Beringer, Casey Resien and Sabrina Scales scored goals for Hempstead.

Saints, Lions stay No.2 in poll

The Xavier Saints and Linn-Mar Lions held their lofty spots in the girls soccer rankings Friday by the IGHSAU.

The Saints are ranked No.2 in Class 2A and the Lions are ranked No.2 in Class 3A.

The Prairie Hawks stayed No.10 in the Class 3A rankings for the second straight week.

The top-ranked teams are Davenport Assumption in Class 1A, North Scott in Class 2A and Bettendorf in Class 3A.
