Prairie has 'fowl' trip to Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS - The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls tennis team won its meet in Cedar Falls Tuesday, but lost its encounter with a wild turkey on the way home.

Coach Scott Leggat was driving the team van when it struck a turkey on I-380 near Gilbertville.

"Blew out the driver's window and ripped the mirror off," Leggat reported. "Glass and turkey feathers all over the inside of van.

"Gilbertville fire department very helpful," he wrote in an e-mail to the Metro Sports Report. "Took us to their station and cleaned the girls up.

"They also vacuumed and cleaned the inside of the van and put plastic on the window so I could drive it home. Girls picked up by parent after

getting tour of fire station and trucks. Very nice people in Gilbertville!!!"

Leggat said he sustained "very minor cuts" from the broken glass.
