Hawks fall to Xavier in girls tennis

Lisa Cowden, Laura Birky, Sarah Chalhoub, Taylor O'Brien and Sara Gross won singles matches Monday as Xavier defeated Prairie, 8-1, in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet at Xavier.

Cowden topped Caroline Rainey, 10-5, at No.1 singles.

Mount Vernon wins Linn-Mar event

Linn-Mar had a pair of winners, but Mount Vernon's depth won out Saturday at the Linn-Mar Doubles Tournament.

Haley Madsen and Ashley Smith won No. 1 doubles and Gabi Botsford and Mackenzie Luehring won No. 2 doubles for the Lions, who split their squad into Red and Black to fill out the four-team tournament.

Mount Vernon claimed only one first. Briana Pickel and Hannah Hall won at No. 3 doubles. But the Mustangs finished second in the other three brackets.

Hawks double down to beat City High

IOWA CITY -- Tasha Olson, JacQui Duvall and Maddie Rainey all won twice to lead Prairie past Iowa City High, 5-4, Tuesday at City High.

The trio all won singles matches. Olson and Duvall played doubles together and shutout their opponents, 10-0. Rainey teamed with Lindsey Johnson in doubles and they won 10-7.

The meet was the first for Prairie.
