Rathje pins help Hawks stay in 1st

Sophomore Cam Rathje collected a pair of second-period pins Thursday night as Prairie beat Dubuque Senior and Cedar Falls in Mississippi Valley Conference wrestling at Prairie.

Rathje flattened Ryan Gieseman in 2:30 at 152 pounds to help the Hawks beat Dubuque Senior, 52-18, and he stuck Clark Doyle in 2:45 as Prairie topped Cedar Falls, 41-21.

Prairie remained unbeaten in the MVC Valley Division at 8-0, one-half game ahead of Iowa City West. The Hawks are 13-2 overall. They wrestle at Iowa City West on Jan. 13.

Hawks win own tournament

Prairie rolled to three straight wins and won its own dual meet tournament Dec. 18.

Prairie rocked Rockton Hononegah, 61-15, Mount Vernon, 50-18, and Dubuque Senior, 69-12.

The Hawks improved to 11-2 overall and carry a 6-0 Mississippi Valley Conference mark into the holiday break.

Hawks drub City High, Xavier

Prairie drubbed Iowa City High, 51-15, and Xavier, 58-10, Thursday (Dec. 16) to sweep a pair of Mississippi Valley Conference meets at Xavier.

Prairie made the double-dual look relatively easy as well, winning 21 of 28 bouts. Trey Blaha had two quick pins in 35 seconds and 64 seconds, but he wasn’t alone.

Five Hawks posted pins in less than a minute with Dillon Brunscheen (32 seconds), Blaha (35 seconds), Zach Witte (40 seconds), Jayden Flege (44 seconds) and Tyler Zacek (45 seconds) all joining the fun.

Hawks 4th in 5 Seasons Duals

Prairie was beaten by Iowa City West, 57-12, Saturday (Dec. 11) in the third-place meet at the 5 Seasons Duals.

Prairie flattened Davenport West and Kennedy in its first two meets, then got drilled by Bettendorf and Iowa City West. The Hawks' efforts in the first two meets left Coach Blake Williams dumbfounded about their performance against Bettendorf and Iowa City West.

Siemering helps Prairie stick Kennedy, 51-14

Roy Siemering knows what it means to sacrifice, work hard and wait your turn.

It paid off Thursday night (Dec. 2).

Siemering celebrated his move into the starting lineup with a gritty 1-0 victory over fifth-ranked Ryan Rodriguez at 140 pounds as Prairie spanked Kennedy, 51-14, in the season opener in prep wrestling at Prairie.
