Prairie wrestlers hope to get healthy

The most important members of the Cedar Rapids Prairie wrestling squad these days could be the trainer, the physical therapist and the team doctor.

The Hawks are hurting a little bit and the biggest meets of the season are coming up.

Sam Uthoff, Dylan Becker and Austin Gould did not wrestle during Thursday night's double-dual meet at Prairie and only Uthoff is given a chance of competing in the Mississippi Valley Conference meet this Saturday.

Prairie, Linn-Mar matmen will host duals

Cedar Rapids Prairie and Linn-Mar will host meets in the Class 3A regional dual team wrestling tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

The top 16 teams in the state were selected for the regional meet, based on rankings by the Iowa Wrestling Coaches Association.

The eight regional winners will advance to the state dual team tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Hawks stick 4 foes at Pleasant Valley

PLEASANT VALLEY - Second-ranked Prairie rolled to four straight wins Saturday at the Pleasant Valley Invitational dual meet wrestling tournament.

The second-ranked Hawks blasted Moline, Ill. (67-6), Pleasant Valley (48-24), Zion-Benton, Ill. (60-15), and another Pleasant Valley squad (77-3).

Twelve Prairie wrestlers combined for 28 total pins.

Trojans stick 1st league loss on Prairie matmen

CEDAR FALLS - Second-ranked Prairie was upset by No.8 Iowa City West, 39-23, in a wrestling meet Thursday night at Cedar Falls High School.

The Hawks bounced back to beat Cedar Falls, 58-12.

Iowa City West won nine of the 14 matches against Prairie. The Hawks got pins from Skyler St. John and Jayden Flege, and major decisions by Sam Uthoff and Zack Fiser.

The match got off to a bad start for Prairie when West's Kegan Wakefield, ranked No. 1 at 138, pinned third-ranked Trey Blaha in 1:23.

Prairie No.2, Linn-Mar 4th in mat rankings

Prairie held on to the No.2 spot while Linn-Mar slipped into a fourth-place tie with Waverly-Shell Rock in the second dual meet wrestling rankings released Thursday by the Iowa Wrestling Coaches Association.

Both, apparently, have clinched home matches for the Class 3A regional dual meet wrestling tournament. The rankings released Thursday are the guideline for next month's pairings.

The top 16 schools in Class 3A qualify for the regional tournament. The regionals take place on Feb. 6. The eight regional winners advance to the state dual meet tournament, Feb. 13 at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
